The Kennedy Center and the National Symphony Orchestra are deeply saddened to learn of the death of Marvin Hamlisch, the NSO’s Principal Pops Conductor from 2000 to 2011. Marvin first performed with the National Symphony in 1980, appearing frequently over the years with the NSO at the Kennedy Center, Wolf Trap, the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol, and the White House. All told, he appeared in more than 250 NSO performances, most recently last month. His musicianship, his humor, and his friendship will be deeply missed and the memories will long be treasured by all at the NSO.
